Search marketing software provider WordStream Inc. recently revealed new data regarding online keyword research. Included in the information are the top 20 high-volume categories of keywords that feature the highest prices per click for the pay-per-click advertising method Google AdWords.
These high-priced keywords illustrate where Google makes the majority of its money.
Insurance, loans, mortgage, attorney and credit, respectively, are the top five keyword categories in terms of highest cost per click. Examples of keywords in the insurance category include “buy car insurance online” and “auto insurance price quotes.”
In the attorney category, two examples are “DUI defense attorney” and “personal injury attorney.”
“Cheapest homeowner loans” and “consolidate graduate student loans” are two examples of keyword phrases within the loans category. The other two categories reveal the predominance of bad credit within American society.
Commonly used keywords within both categories include the term “bad credit,” perhaps a result of the difficult financial times many people have fallen upon.
In the mortgage category, individuals commonly search using keywords like “refinanced second mortgages” or “remortgage with bad credit.” Those looking for credit use keywords such as “bad credit home buyer” and “home equity line of credit.”
Finance-related keyword searches seem to be very popular these days and Google is reaping the benefits. It will not be surprising to see “bad credit car finance” included in a future list of top keyword categories.
Google receives 97 percent of its revenue from advertising on its sites, according to WordStream. In just the past four quarters, Google had advertising revenue of $32.2 billion.
Though five cents is the minimum bid for a keyword, research by WordStream revealed that Google can earn as much as $50 per click. Industries represented by the highest costs and volumes are those that can pay top dollar to obtain new customers.
